There are many different species of salmon, each with a unique taste, size, and temperament. At Green Rocks Lodge, our waters are home to five distinct salmon species.
They all peak at different times, so below is each of the species that you may catch on your trip, their peak times, and their flavor profiles!
King (Chinook) Salmon
Mid-May through the end of July is the peak time for King/Chinook salmon!
Flavor Profile: buttery flavor and thick texture. Regarded as the best- it isn’t called “King” for no reason!
Red (Sockeye) Salmon
Red/Sockeye salmon peak in mid-June to mid-August.
Flavor Profile: strong flavor and fatty texture.
Chum (Dog) Salmon
Chum/Dog Salmon peak from mid-July to the end of August.
Flavor Profile: lighter in taste and less fatty.
Pink (Humpies) Salmon
Like Silver/Coho salmon, Pink/Humpies salmon peak from mid-July to early September!
Flavor Profile: What most think of when they hear “salmon.” Mild flavor and low in fat.
Silver (Coho) Salmon
Towards the end of the season is typically best for Silver/Coho salmon. These peak from mid-July to the end of September!
Flavor Profile: mild flavor and fatty texture.

Our per-person rate includes a 7-day fishing/hunting trip that starts Saturday morning and ends Friday Morning. We give you everything you need, including fileting your catch, freezer space for your catch, and unlimited vacuum sealing, ensuring every fish you catch can stay fresh for you to take home! We also include three daily meals, comfortable lodging, and transportation to and from the airport.
You only need to worry about your transportation, Alaskan hunting and fishing license and stamps, and any personal items and alcohol.
